Junior High Band

7th and 8th graders have a wide range of performing opportunities. In the fall, junior high students participate in parade marching, where they memorize a song and learn how to march while playing. There are parade competitions that the Junior High Marching Band competes at during September and October. After marching band ends, the junior high band converts back into a concert band, and we perform concert band music for the rest of the school year. 7th and 8th grade students can also participate in extracurricular ensembles including jazz band, all-state groups, and honor bands.
Performances
Homecoming Football Game
Junior High students will perform both during the homecoming parade and at the football game on the track.

Marching Band Parade Competitions
The Junior High Marching Band performs at area parades during the fall. They learn and memorize a parade song, and learn how to march and play at the same time.

Indoor Marching Show
Junior high and High school students preform their marching pieces at the Indoor Show. The drumlines and color guard also perform at this concert.

The Winter Concert
The Winter concert is the first major performance of the year. Students perform various styles of music.

Jazz Band
The Junior High jazz band is an extra curricular ensemble that performs a concert in Lennox and also competes at local competitions. Students are exposed to swing, latin, rock, and funk music.

Solo Contest
During their lessons, students prepare a solo and learn how to play by themselves and with an accompanist. They will perform their solo in front of a judge, and family and friends at Canton High School.

The District Wide Pops Concert
The pops concert features all of the band ensembles in grades 9-12.

All State Band and All State Jazz Band
Beginning in 6th grade, students can try out for middle school all-state band. This requires students to learn three scales and two etudes and then send in recordings of their audition to be judged with all other students in the state. If students are selected, they will get the honor of playing in the all state band.
